SCHOOL OF ROCK MADISON

All-Star House Band

The Performance Program is designed for kids who know the basics of how to play their instrument and are ready to take it to the stage. This program introduces the team element into music instruction. Students will learn harmonies, musicianship and how to perform in an authentic rock show environment.

Each season, students spend time honing their music skills while preparing to perform some of the greatest songs in rock and roll history... Past student programs have include roof raising tributes to Pink Floyd's The Wall, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, AC/DC, Best of the 80s, Punk Rock, Devo, Frank Zappa, Queen, and many more fun and exciting programs.

SHINY LAPEL TRIO

The Shiny Lapel Trio is a tiny little band with a great big sound! Keeping it simple with just three rockin’ instruments, and a big ol’ slice of velvety smooth vocals, these guys tear up a dance floor like a carpenter late for lunch. Whether they’re rippin’ thru a classic Louis Prima standard, or makin’ ya cry with a Nat King Cole ballad, the instruments grind along full throttle while the vocals float across the top as thick as a layer of gritty bar room smoke. Oh, they schwing baby and it ain’t for the faint at heart!

If you need another boring top 40 cover band, there are plenty to be found, but if you want a band that’ll make your feet hurt from dancing and your voice hoarse from singing along, then you need to see what the Shiny Lapels are all about: Pure, sweaty, sinful swingin’ fun!

Headlining Performance

SPYRO GYRA

As Spyro Gyra contemplates upcoming milestones to its storied career, it's tempting to fall back on the Grateful Dead lyric, "What a long strage trip it's been to describe it." During that time, they have performed over five thousands shows, released twenty-nine albumns (not counting the "Best of..." complations) selling over ten million albumns while also acheiving on eplatinum and two gold albumns. These upcoming milestones include 2012, which will be thirty-five years since their first album release and 2014 will be forty years as a band. They show little sign of wanting to slow downeither, gaining GRAMMY nominations for each of theor last four albumns.

The group's increasing popularity - combined with the purchase of a new sign club - prompted the owner to insist that Beckenstein come up with a name for his band. "It began as a joke. I said 'Spirogyra", he mispelled it and here we are thirty years later. "In retrospect, it's okay. In a way, it sounds like what we do. It sounds like motion and energy."

“Summer Nights at Harkness" concerts are a successful on-going sustained restoration of summer music at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT.
